U.N.C.L.E.’s heroics?
Chin has gotten a new ball for The Cage in the New Year, and Alvin has been telling me how he has scored five, six goals with the new ball. He was so looking forward to this outing that he wore his soccer socks the whole day and even showed them to me during this morning’s meeting. It was bright yellow, and Glyn bought them for him. As he was rushing to The Cage, he had to change while driving, and according to him, at the traffic lights. I don't want to know the details. Woof!
Another player who has been looking forward to this game was Raphael. He saw U.N.C.L.E. warming up as he drove past and was quick to join U.N.C.L.E. While U.N.C.L.E. was the first player to reach, Raphael displayed his yearning to play explicitly, going for the same ball with Daniel that resulted in him slipping. Sigh… cannot wait huh?
To challenge for the Most On player award for the night, Alvin revealed that he was changing as he drove to The Cage. Aiyoh, I think both of you can share tonight’s award for The Most On Player.
The game started off with Raphael and Rongming pairing up and they conjured up two goals within ten minutes. There was a reshuffle after Simon, Alvin, Sydney and his friend came, and it was six-a-side. The lineup looked like that: U.N.C.L.E. (keeper), Raphael, Rongming, Simon, Alvin and Sydney on one team, Daniel (keeper), Patrick, Johnni, Sydney’s friend, Weiming, and Wenchong formed the other.
Before we get into the game, Patrick requested to NOT mention him as he has not been playing for a couple of months.
Just five minutes after the reshuffle, Raphael made it 2-nil and was gunning for his hat-trick as he hit Daniel’s crown jewels. With the two Rs combined, Rongming opened the floodgates as he made it 3-nil.
Though U.N.C.L.E. was playing in between the sticks, it didn’t stop him from trying to score as he make his first attempt at goal from the other end in the 25th minute. But Daniel was equalled to the task this time. Tagged the “spiderman keeper”, Daniel was using his arms and legs all over to stop the goals from coming. Still, he couldn’t stop Raphael from bagging his hat-trick just after the half-hour mark.
Weiming replaced Daniel moments later, but his first job was to pick the ball out of his own net as Rongming made it 5-0. Two minutes later, Rongming took a shot at goal, but Weiming blocked the ball using his knee!
Johnni made it 6-nil with a backpass that went awfully wrong in the 36th minute. While Weiming came up with more drama as he stopped Raphael’s shot by clipping the ball in between his legs.
However, as Remesh has said, miracles only happen once. Raphael bagged his fourth even though Weiming tried to pull the same trick again, making it 8-0 after a long-range effort from Sydney’s friend.
Soon, it was 9-0 as Simon tapped home against Daniel from close. Nice work! He was worried about not being about to even touch the ball before he started playing. Have some confident!
With about 15 minutes remaining, Rongming bagged his hat-trick and it was 10-0. I was hoping that U.N.C.L.E. could keep a clean sheet, but he did eventually let in one goal from Wenchong. But U.N.C.L.E. made amends as Daniel couldn’t reach U.N.C.L.E.’s REALLY long-range effort this time. 11-1!
Wenchong put another past U.N.C.L.E. in the dying minutes, and Alvin finally put his name to the scoresheet. It's the YELLOW socks! He said he will wear the pick ones next week. You wear, I will be there to report it!
With Sydney’s friend scoring just before the "final whistle", the game ended 13-2.
When the boys are all resting outside, Wenchong admitted to using U.N.C.L.E. as human target during one of his attempts at goal. Wenchong was frustrated but the small area U.N.C.L.E. left for him to shoot, and he thought U.N.C.L.E. was the easier target.
Wenchong scored both the goals for his side after a two-week lay-off. With the score at 13-2, was it U.N.C.L.E.’s heroics that saved the day or U.N.C.L.E.’s opponents weak? You decide.
