U.N.C.L.E.’s Heroics Part II
Near side lineup: Eugene (GK), Raphael, Rongming, Alvin, Peter, Patrick, Jiaming
Far side lineup: “GK”, Chin, Remesh, Johnni, Daniel, Algene, Simon
The boys get to KO slightly earlier than the scheduled 8pm as the group playing before them has got no energy left. They started off with 5-a-side, as Patrick, Simon, Jiaming and Algene arrived on the dot or few minutes past the KO time.
Just six minutes into the game, U.N.C.L.E. almost let in the first goal, leaving the goal-mouth as he came off his line. But there was no stopping the opening goal, via the combination of Raphael and Rongming (2Rs). 1-nil, and the three players outside joined the fray for 7-a-side. While I was still tracking who’s in whose team, it was 2-nil. How frustrating!!
The presence of the in-form GK at goal, the 2Rs have to conjure up some tricks to score. Raphael’s attempt in the 17th minute was blocked. Not giving up, Raphael made it 3-nil three minutes later. But at the other end, U.N.C.L.E. let in a thunderous goal, taking the score to 3-1.
There was no denying Raphael his second goal in the 22nd minute, as his team pulled ahead for 4-1. Yet U.N.C.L.E. reduced the goal-deficit as there was another brilliant goal at the other end. 4-2.
Daniel took the place of GK and was called into action immediately, tipping away a looping ball from Raphael, who slammed home the rebound for 5-3. At the other end, Chin volleyed home to give his team a chance to stage a comeback.
Chin replaced Daniel as keeper at the half-hour mark. And Remesh’s attempt at goal was denied by the crossbar.
Moments later, U.N.C.L.E. was once again lying on the ground, and the game was halted. This time, I don’t even know who he collided with, and Chin shouted “Wayang lah”.
Right after play resumed, Alvin bagged his first goal of the night and the score stood at 6-4. Algene then scored the all important equaliser as his team began to stage a comeback in the 39th minute.
Five minutes later, Algene send home a brilliant goal and his side took the lead for the first time tonight. Down, but not out, Peter angled home a long range effort that took the score to 7-all. But all the hard work done up front was rendered useless as U.N.C.L.E.’s fort was breached once again.
Not satisfied with his hat-trick, Raphael powered home the equaliser in the 48th minute. But U.N.C.L.E. once again undid all the hard work up front as he let in another. Peter came to his rescue this time as this Spurs fan took the score to 9-all.
Rongming extended the lead at the 53rd minute while Raphael had an easy job of tapping the ball home after some horrendous clearance by Johnni. Moments later, Alvin took the score to 12-9, but Chin scored another at the other end for 12-10.
In the dying minutes of the game, the on-fire Rongming increased his goal tally once again, and Raphael faked GK as he lobbed the ball home for 14-10.
Into extra-time, there were only few players left in the Cage. As Eric Cantona has it, “the loser go home”, and Raphael was left in goal. Though he let in a goal in the opening minute, he dribbled the ball from his goal all the way up to the other end and scored!
This triggered Remesh’s comment about how he could dribble all the way up front and can even score! Hahaha!
