The Theatrics of U.N.C.L.E., Alvin and Raphael

Perhaps my notebook knew U.N.C.L.E. was going to turn up at Grande Vista. It went crazy and sent me there. Surprised to see him there, the one thing he said to me was, “You never call me ah?” “U.N.C.L.E.!” He said nobody calls him that anymore. Everybody just called him uncle, and now I own the copyright of U.N.C.L.E. The game started with five-a-side. The whites and the reds. Raphael didn’t bring a white top, and changed his top from red to yellow. Enough of Reds already. Alvin said to him, “yellow is good, that means you with us.” A move started from the back, and the ball reached Remesh, who smashed his shot against the upright. Raphael assisted in two goals, and Remesh tried to set up one for him. It was the usual stuff the boys deliver. Soon, came the break, after which Remesh left after another half hour or so. A classic was when Raphael sent his cross over for Simon to head the ball home. Whow! Impressed! Alvin kept goal, and laughed he did at keepers who let the ball slipped ou

Ahmad injured again

Arrived at Grande Vista way after the boys started playing. Kelvin and Arsenal were the first two boys I saw. They appeared to be taking a dump by the "arena". Steven was already resting in the shelter. He said I arrived after he scored two goals! Aiyoh! So arrogant!! Saw a distinct White Team and Red Team. Alvin's top looked kind of familiar.Oh! He was saying that he would make his appearance in new shoes!! He claimed he boought them at $10. Not before long, there was a casualty. It was Ahmad. Our dear friend, injured his toe two weeks ago. This time, it's two other toes! Simon bought ice for Ahmad's injury. Eh...why don't you be medic the next time? Then they won't always ask me for massage. Deal or no deal? Kiok made a special appearance. It wasn't until when we were on our way home that she realised Ah Gong has moved here! GOD! Gurmit made his appearance before we left. http://www.flickr.com/photos/fuying_sr/

Showdown Delivery Service

Had to deliver episode 10 of Showdown for Alvin, so Showdown Delivery Service made a trip to Grande Vista during the boys' almost weekly game there. Turned out to be the opening ceremony of my new toy. "Ronaldino" was there to play. But he was wearing the wrong jersey. For the record, he said he hasn't put on "the BIGGER" one when we were talking about his hairband. At one point, when he was standing behind the goalpost, there was lacking a player in the arena. "Ronaldino" was saying, "I here, I here!" When it's time to KO, Rongming and "Ronaldino" of them chose to pose before starting, making all the players wait for them. Peter commented that I finally brought a camera down. Well, it's opening ceremony for my new toy. He had wanted a pictures on this blog for a long time, and I believe he wasn't the only one. But something has gotta give, so with pictures come lesser words. Afterall, a picture speaks a thousands wo

The most colourful colour commentator

After a LONG drive to Deptford field, we arrived to see players donning red tops already doing their warm-ups on the pitch. What caught me unaware was that I was to become blood donors to the food depleted mosquitoes there. The heavy downpour prior to KO did nothing to dampen Peter’s mood. He even brought along the “chest” of tops we bought in Korat. Those who turned up without red tops were handed one each, and our regulars took theirs at long last. Half of the Reds were unfamiliar faces to me, I began to wonder how am I going to blog about this game. So after the team has decided on their tactics, I interrogated Kelvin Tham on the players. I only managed to register Vincent. Though KO was stated at 7pm, the game finally started at 7.35pm. Kelvin commented that we might lose this game as Rongming had a bandaged knee, and our goalie’s goal-kick buay zhai. Before play had settled down, Chris made a clearance that looked ugly but effective. Not long after, Shawn (I think) sent the Reds o

U.N.C.L.E’s testimonial Match

Date: 11 Feb Time: Late morning Biao Shu asking if Raphael is free to play football on Thursday, he’s arranging a testimonial match for U.N.C.L.E. Apparently there wasn’t any pitch available, and to cut the story short, it was changed to Wednesday night, 10pm to 12am. Date: 12 Feb Time: Late afternoon U.N.C.L.E bumped into me at 3rd floor, and asked if I going for his testimonial. I told him probably, he said I should go, as it’s for the last time. Err… U.N.C.L.E so your last time playing at cage, and also my last blog is it? Date: 13 Feb Time: Evening I was still contemplating whether I should go for U.N.C.L.E’s testimonial match, and my dad said just go and enjoy yourself. Watching football will take your mind off other stuff for a while. So here I am, as the boys prepared for KO. It was the Red team versus the White as the boys turned up in these colours. Simon, Wenchong, Rongming and Weiming belong to the Red, while Raphael, Alvin, Biao Shu and U.N.C.L.E is White. With

The Jusri's Show

Enough of the Cage? Well, I’m not too sure. But the boys seem to want to conquer new grounds as Peter organised a football game at Grande Vista. Biao Shu, Alvin, Kelvin, Steven, Dick and Peter were already there when we reached. Raphael was already geared up, couldn’t wait for KO. Remesh came over for a visit and told me to put in the blog, he’s out injured and won’t be playing for the next six months. Err… so if there is another game at Jalan Besar, does that mean you can’t play too? I was busy picking out a spot to sit at a sheltered area where there are benches. Not too far from the action, I thought. Making myself comfortable, as Biao Shu put down his stuff for me to “take care”, Raphael commented that there will be mosquitoes here. Aiyoh! Biao Shu was kind enough to let me sit on his eco-friendly bag as the boys started handing over things for me to “take care”. Peter mentioned that Jusri wanted to bring his kids here for a swim, and still not sight of him yet. So while we waited,

Happy Birthday

“Fu Ying! Tomorrow got game, I see you there!” Err… U.N.C.L.E… you tell me tomorrow got game, but never tell me what time? But before I can even ask him that, he has disappeared. Turned out to be the Whites playing against the Colours, on this Wednesday night at 10pm. The Whites meaning they were all wearing white tops. It was goalless when I reached there, about five minutes after the kick-off. The moment U.N.C.L.E. saw Raphael outside, he was shouting for him to join his side. Moments later, his team was leading by a goal to nil. But the lead didn’t last long as Peter sent home the equalizer just before the half-hour mark. Next thing I knew, Wenchong was hit by a ball and Ahmad made use of the short break to entertain me with his breakdance moves. Right after play resumed, Peter tapped the ball home for 2-1. Moments later, Johnni gets his shot in for 2-2. But not for Raphael who had his shot saved and Arsenal who sent his header over. Peter completed his hat-trick just before the hou
