The Jusri's Show

Image
Enough of the Cage? Well, I’m not too sure. But the boys seem to want to conquer new grounds as Peter organised a football game at Grande Vista. Biao Shu, Alvin, Kelvin, Steven, Dick and Peter were already there when we reached. Raphael was already geared up, couldn’t wait for KO. Remesh came over for a visit and told me to put in the blog, he’s out injured and won’t be playing for the next six months. Err… so if there is another game at Jalan Besar, does that mean you can’t play too? I was busy picking out a spot to sit at a sheltered area where there are benches. Not too far from the action, I thought. Making myself comfortable, as Biao Shu put down his stuff for me to “take care”, Raphael commented that there will be mosquitoes here. Aiyoh! Biao Shu was kind enough to let me sit on his eco-friendly bag as the boys started handing over things for me to “take care”. Peter mentioned that Jusri wanted to bring his kids here for a swim, and still not sight of him yet. So while we waited,...

Happy Birthday

“Fu Ying! Tomorrow got game, I see you there!” Err… U.N.C.L.E… you tell me tomorrow got game, but never tell me what time? But before I can even ask him that, he has disappeared. Turned out to be the Whites playing against the Colours, on this Wednesday night at 10pm. The Whites meaning they were all wearing white tops. It was goalless when I reached there, about five minutes after the kick-off. The moment U.N.C.L.E. saw Raphael outside, he was shouting for him to join his side. Moments later, his team was leading by a goal to nil. But the lead didn’t last long as Peter sent home the equalizer just before the half-hour mark. Next thing I knew, Wenchong was hit by a ball and Ahmad made use of the short break to entertain me with his breakdance moves. Right after play resumed, Peter tapped the ball home for 2-1. Moments later, Johnni gets his shot in for 2-2. But not for Raphael who had his shot saved and Arsenal who sent his header over. Peter completed his hat-trick just before the hou...

Happy New Year

The first Cage coverage of the year will be in bits and pieces. Reasons being: I was late as I had to feed myself and Kiok first, and was more often than not distracted by the questions she asked. The first scoreline I heard was 1-1, created by Alvin and completed by Kelvin. I was surprised. Err…played for almost half an hour and only two goal? What’s happening? But my train of thoughts were broken by Kiok who asked me, after Mr. All-Can picked up the ball with his hands. “Can use hands to pick up the ball meh?” Err…he goalkeeper leh. Aiyoh…thought she went through this with Aunty Wendy before, at Tampines Stadium where all the punters turned and looked at her. Her next question nearly made me rolled on the floor. “How come today I come, but none of them are topless?” I tried very hard to focus on the game, and Peter scored for 3-2. Kiok was reading the newspapers and was trying to tell me, my horoscope for the Rat year. The second lunar month is supposed to be good for my romance. Abo...

Bidding Farewell...

… to 2007, so I thought why not have a game at JBS when Cynthia suggested that Ross played with the Stunners for the last time this year, against the Media I contacted Ben and the stage was set for 28 Nov. But it wasn’t as smooth as it turned out to be. Ben, the team manger for the FAS Stunners called and asked if the match can be postpone to January as they could not get enough people. With the Boys all revved up and ready to go, Ben promised he will try and gather his troops. Raphael and I came out with a list of 20 people from the start. The list quickly became 16 and on the day itself, we only had 14 and only 12 turned up. At about 2pm in the afternoon, Mark sms me saying that match will be cancel as the weather is not looking good. Even Ross called me and said heaven is not on our side. I remained positive and said the rain, has got 2hr and 30min to rain and then it will stop and we can KO. Later, I received an sms from Alvin saying that my assistant manager asked him to be coach ...

I’m My Own Press

As the alarm clock went off, I jumped out of bed. The Media can’t be late for this game coverage. U.N.C.L.E. said Captain Chin wanted all to report to Cage at 7.45am and so said the clock while I was at the last junction, waiting for the light to change. With my stomach growling, I bluffed myself that the reporting time referred to players only and not me. So I bought my breakfast before driving my way in, praying that they (our team) won’t KO without me. Spotting Chin, I quickly found out that Biao Shu has just reached with U.N.C.L.E. We quickly settled down at the nearby coffeeshop and waited for others to arrive. The clock ticked by as Biao Shu wolfed down his fried noodles, and Ian made his appearance. He told us he had a bottle of volka last night and U.N.C.L.E. started worrying about Ian being dehydrated. The topic then changed to how to punish Raphael who wanted everyone to report at 7.45am. U.N.C.L.E. suggested that Raphael play without his underwear, but Biao Shu said he might...

My Charity Shield

This morning, I was reminded that the Charity Shield is on this Sunday, and I realised that my last blog for the Cage was in February. So before my “nightmare” starts, I thought, maybe I should make this match my own Charity Shield. Arriving about twenty minutes after KO, the first piece of action I witnessed was a finger-tip save from U.N.C.L.E at the far-end, just before the hour mark, and he was playing with a heavily strapped knee. Then, my eyes went searching for Biao Shu Shu. A little bird told me that his skills have very much improved since I last saw. The next thing I knew was, someone was shouting out 3-1. Then I realised that Biao Shu was playing keeper, with his back facing me. Couldn’t recognise him with his new hair-cut. Nice boots! Raphael was keeping goal at the other end, and he came all the way up to try his luck against Biao Shu, which nearly resulted an open goal at the other end. Just after the hour mark, Chin tried his luck next against Biao Shu, making it 4-1. St...

The traffic jam on PIE almost kept me away from this week’s outing – the last game for the Year of Dog. Kelvin told me to change into my shoes and shorts until Biao Shu Shu arrived. I looked around. Some of the regular players were not here. With the arrival of Remesh, the numbers were just enough for four-a-side. Inside the Cage, it took a long time before the two teams can be formed. Daniel kept goal and in his team were Alvin, Ahmad and Shih Chuan. U.N.C.L.E. took his place in between the sticks at the near end, and with him were Remesh, Jusri and Kelvin. As the teams KO, the music ringing through was Liverpool’s theme song, You’ll Never Walk Alone, and the next piece sounded like Champions League theme song. Such were the songs the boys played to in the first ten minutes, and Alvin bagged the first goal of the night. Ian entered the Cage and joined U.N.C.L.E.’s team. His first piece of action was forcing Daniel to a splendid save. But Remesh showed him how it should be done when he...
